THEY called it puppy love but for Donny Osmond it was not what he wanted. He may well have been the charming eye candy of The Osmonds at the height of their fame (well, certainly compared to porcine younger brother Jimmy and his Long-haired Lover From Liverpool) but pouting at the cameras was not Donny’s favourite part of the fame game.

For when he smiled, he was actually seething and biting his tongue behind those famous white tombstone teeth.

“They’d say, ‘Blow a kiss to the camera’ and it always used to drive me crazy, ” Donny, now 49, recalls in a forthcoming ITV documentary about boy bands. “I didn’t want to blow a kiss to the camera I’m a guy. But I was meant to appeal to that kind of loveable, sweet, puppy-love kid and it worked.”
